Figures Of Speech Used In The Bible

Figures of speech are the Holy Spirit’s markings as to WHAT IS IMPORTANT in the Word of God. God’s Word is to be accepted literally whenever and wherever possible. But when a word or words cannot be true to fact, they are known as FIGURES OF SPEECH. They have a godly-designed influence which must be known, grasped and understood to be able to RIGHTLY DIVIDE the Word of God.

This is a fascinating field of research and study with almost limitless possibilities. For instance, THERE ARE 212 DIFFERENT FIGURES OF SPEECH USED IN THE BIBLE. Some figures have 40 DIFFERENT VARIETIES under one figure of speech. If you are a serious student of the Bible, this particular field will open up much of God’s Word to you that may have been difficult to understand.

I spent 18 months studying this subject sometimes 2 to 4 hours per day. I want to keep this as simple as I can for you, so YOU will be asking the questions. The following is a very simple, but effective example of a figure of speech:

First, the normal grammatical statement being true to fact:

"The ground is dry."

Now the same type of statement using a figure of speech -- much more powerful :

"The ground is thirsty."

Do you see the greater impact of the SECOND statement? It grabs your attention and stops and makes you think. When God Almighty does this in His Word, He is telling you that what He is saying is most important!

God bless you. I look forward to working with you.

In His Service,
